What Did You Almost Miss Today?

Open journal with the words 'Notice what is already here' written on the page

This morning I watched someone hold a door open for a stranger.

Nothing remarkable happened.

There was no conversation. No thank you that lasted more than a second. They probably won't remember each other tomorrow.

But for that brief moment, two lives that had been moving separately met.

I've been thinking about how much of life happens this way.

Not in the moments we photograph.

Not in the things we spend months preparing for.

In between.

The extra few seconds someone stays on the phone.

The way the room changes when a certain person walks into it.

The first sip of something warm.

Someone laughing before they can stop themselves.

A bird landing close enough to make you look up.

We call these small things because they don't seem to change anything.

Maybe that's the wrong question.

Maybe everything doesn't need to change us.

Maybe some things are simply here to be noticed.

And maybe noticing them changes something anyway.

So before today becomes yesterday, there is a question worth asking:

What happened today that you almost missed?
